On the one hand, Sebastiano Bucca concerns himself with ‚scanography‘ and on the other hand with the Collodium wet plate procedure. Thereby, light and its effects are the centre of Bucca’s work.
The Collodium wet plate procedure describes the time-sensitive photographic process which originated in the 1850s. With the advent of this prodecure—for the first time in the history of photography—the promise of photographically transmiaed actuality arose. Therefore it is not surprising that the precision, which is a requirement for use of the time-sensitive procedure, can be detected in Bucca’s photographs. Nevertheless, Bucca also leaves room for coincidences in his work process, which then result in near-abstract light and shadow plays.
For the scanograms, Bucca makes use of scanner light. During the work process, experimental freedom and digital processing come together to create 3D-like effects. Light as well as time are key aspects in both of Bucca’s preferred creation methods. In short, Sebastiano Bucca seeks to sensitize the viewer to the understanding of „time as a fleeting concept.“
