André Wagners photographic body of work stands for a prolonged examination of the pictured contents and motives. In this regard, the most important aspects for Wagner are the components of time and metaphysics. The photographer seeks to stimulate the viewer in a way that prompts us to examine the works over a longer period of time and as an effect of this we are motivated to think about what we are seeing in front of us on a deeper level. Essential to Wagners photographs is the aim to make the magical moments—that undoubtedly still exist even in our over-rationalized world— visible to the viewer.
The culture of India acts as a catalyst for Wagner’s creative process. The land, it’s customs and traditions are the basis for various photographs. In this context the vast category of spirituality plays an important role, and Wagner wishes to make these abstract aspects tangible in the form of photographs. However, André Wagner never manipulates his pictures; the colorful effects we see stem from long exposure times.
